Martin squadron cadets complete Model Rocketry Program

—Six cadets from Maryland Wing’s Glenn L. Martin Composite Squadron were recently awarded the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Model Rocketry badge after satisfactorily completing all three stages of the CAP Model Rocketry program.

Maryland Wing DDR program on parade

—The Maryland Wing Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) staff participated in two holiday parades located in Denton and Ridgely, Md., during the month of December. Civil Air Patrol was represented with a float pulled by the National Headquarters DDR truck.

St. Mary's cadet receives appointment to U.S. Air Force Academy

—Cadet 2nd Lt. Stephen Gast has received an appointment to the U. S. Air Force Academy, Class of 2012. He is a member of the St. Mary’s Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol Maryland Wing.

Maryland Wing cadet appointed to Maryland Youth Advisory Council

—Cadet Senior Master Sgt. Joseph Aryankalayil will serve on the Maryland Youth Advisory Council, following an appointment by Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, state Senate president, and the speaker of the House of Delegates.

Parris assumes command of Group II

—Maj. William Parris assumed command of Group II of the Civil Air Patrol Maryland Wing during a ceremony held this past weekend at Wing headquarters. Parris accepted the group flag in the traditional ceremony as Lt. Col. Christian Ready relinquished the command he held for three years.

Carroll Composite Squadron receives $7,800 grant from UPS

—The Carroll Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol Maryland Wing was recently awarded a $7,800 grant from the United Parcel Service (UPS) Foundation to upgrade the squadron’s communications capabilities.
