Maryland Wing hosts PAO Academy

—More than 30 Civil Air Patrol members gathered at Maryland Wing headquarters this past weekend for the first Public Affairs Officer Academy. Participants included unit public affairs officers (PAO), squadron commanders, cadet PAO staff, drug demand reduction officers, and others interested in the responsibilities of a Civil Air Patrol PAO.

Mt. Airy brothers receive Mitchell Awards

—Cadets Kyle and Trevor Flanick of the Mt. Airy Composite Squadron in the Maryland Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), received their General Billy Mitchell Awards recently at the Mt. Airy Senior and Community Center during a promotion and change of command ceremony.

Cadet Change of Command at College Park

—The College Park Composite Squadron recently received a new cadet commander as Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Orville Saunders, Jr., assumed command from Cadet Chief Master Sgt. Lena Johnson during a ceremony at the College Park Airport.

Osprey squadron hits the streets of Essex

—Members from the Osprey Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol Maryland Wing recently hit the streets to participate in their quarterly “Eastern Avenue Street Clean-up”. The Osprey Squadron has been cleaning Eastern Avenue for three years now as part of the “Adopt-a-Highway” program, sponsored by the State Highway Administration.

Maryland members gather in Solomons for Annual Conference and Military Ball

—More than 200 people gathered at the Holiday Inn Select in Solomons, Md., this past weekend for training and recognition at the annual Maryland Wing conference and military ball, hosted by Col. Jerry Weiss, Maryland Wing commander. With 23 training courses, a full-day cadet conference, cadet ball, and special all-day Sunday courses, there was something for everyone.

CAP National Commander visits Maryland

—Maj. Gen. Amy S. Courter, national commander of the Civil Air Patrol, recently visited the Maryland Wing providing an opportunity for her to become better acquainted with the members and activities of the Maryland Wing.
